H2Ocean Fluidised Media Reactor.

The H2Ocean Media Reactor has been developed by D-D. It gives the ultimate low cost solution for fluidising a whole range of materials. That are used on your marine or freshwater aquarium. Many smaller reactors on the market look good, are packaged well and are competitively priced. However when you get down to using them they just do not tick all of the boxes. D-D have spent a lot of time ironing out the bugs to make this a flexible product. Which is ideal for all hobbyists.

Why use the H2Ocean Media Reactor

The H2Ocean Media Reactor can be used to fluidise a range of media used with marine and freshwater aquariums. The simple design allows the reactor to easily hang on to the sides of the sump and tanks or to stand alone next to the aquarium. We recommend standing it in the sump, this avoids any leaks should the lid not be tightened adequately. We recommend the use of the following proven products on your H2Ocean Media Reactor: •RowaPhos phosphate remover •Nutrifix bio pellets •RowaCarbon active carbon Media specific information: RowaPhos Max capacity 500mls, flow rate 250-300ltrs/hr, fine sponge required. Tip-floss can be used below sponge to trap fine particles. Nutrifix Bio Pellets Max capacity 1000mls, flow rate 300-500ltrs/hr, must be used without either sponge fitted, direct the flow towards the feed of a protein skimmer of collect in fine filter sock and change regularly. RowCarbon Max capacity 1000mls, flow rate 300-500ltrs/hr. Use with sponge.

These reactors are small enough to use on the smallest of nano tanks but with sufficient capacity to use on larger systems.
  • 128mm x 94mm x 440mm (including fittings and lid)
  • Reaction tube outer diameter – 80mm
  • Tube height between upper/lower perforated plates – 340mm
  • Can hang on glass up to 25mm
  • Designed to be the correct height to hang on a 15″ sump (will stand inside smaller sumps or hang onto taller sumps).

Plug and Play.

How often do you buy some equipment and then find you do not have all of the parts to install it? The reactor is supplied with all of the items that you need to allow you to get going.
  • H2Ocean Media Reactor
  • 3 x lengths of clear plastic tubing
  • Non return valve
  • Flow adjustment tap
  • 2 Grades of media sponges (1 of each)
  • 8 x cable ties for securing the pipework

Affordable Quality Build

The FMR Reactor is affordable enough to be used on small tanks or to allow multiple units on larger tanks. However there is no compromise over design and build quality as it is no good having the best reactor in the world if it breaks after 5 minutes of use.

It is important to be able to mount the reactor in a range of positions depending on the system. The H2Ocean Media Reactor can stand in the sump, beside the sump, hang on the sump or hang and clamp directly on the tank. All via the bracket incorporated into the lid design. The inlet and outlet pipes can be fitted in a number of positions to allow pipework to run in different directions.

Efficient Fluidisation

The main requirement of the reactor is to fluidise media efficiently which the FMR reactor does very well. The base of the body is dished to disperse an even flow of water from the central downpipe through 360 degrees. Thus preventing dead spots. Next there is a lower perforated diffusion plate which acts as a lower support for the media. When not switched on which creates an empty plenum area below for faster fluidisation on restarting and to prevent compacting of media at the base of the reactor. A coarse sponge is provided to be used with fine materials that may pass through the perforated plate however this is not normally required for most medias.

Loss of Media

Relying simply on reducing the flow rate so that the fluidisation is within the bottom 2/3 of the reactor. Anyone who has used a reactor will know that on start up that you get a sudden flood of water. Which washes a portion of the media out before the fluidisation settles down. The FMR is fitted with an upper perforated plate and also with a fine sponge to restrict all but the finest of particles from exiting the reactor in this situation. Note: When used with Bio Pellets that the upper sponge should not be used. The perforated plate will prevent the media from being flushed out of the reactor.

Ease of Ability to Refill

Many reactors make it difficult or impossible to refill the media. Without emptying out the reactor first as the central tube comes off with the lid. This and the lack of a lower diffusion plate means that the media fills the tube when you put the lid back on. Making it hard to restart. The central feed tube on the FMR is separate to the lid. This allows the lid to be removed easily. Leaving the tube and media in place so that it is a simple matter to top up and to put the lid back on. Not many reactors do this thus making the FMR more efficient. No multiple screws to undo, to remove the lid as it is screwed on and sealed with a multi stage replaceable seal at the top of the body.

Non Return

In a power off situation, where the reactor sits above the water level, the water and media will back siphon through the pump. The FMR has a non return valve supplied separately, which can be used or not. Depending on installation, and prevents this problem from occurring – simple but effective.

Important Note

The hose connectors on the top of the reactor are designed to be a tight push fit. However if the unit is to be used outside of the sump then we recommend that you glue these in position for extra security once the final position is determined. Connect all hoses with the cable ties supplied. This will provide extra assurance if the connectors were not connected properly in the first place. Or if the unit is knocked accidentally.
